How to Get to Vlora: Airports, Buses, Ferries & Driving

Vlora is on the south-west coast of Albania, around 150 km from the capital, Tirana. Here are the main ways to get here and how to reach the port for your boat trip.

By plane

Tirana International Airport (Nënë Tereza, TIA) is the main airport for most visitors. From the airport to Vlora takes about 2 to 2.5 hours by car on the highway via Fier.

• Taxi or private transfer. This is the most comfortable option. Agree on the price before you leave.
• Rental car. Available at the airport. Recommended if you want to explore the Riviera.
• Bus. Take the airport bus to Tirana, then a bus to Vlora (see below).

Vlora also has a new international airport being developed nearby. Check whether flights are operating for your dates, because it could save you the drive from Tirana.

By bus from Tirana

Buses and minibuses (furgon) run often between Tirana and Vlora throughout the day. The trip takes around 2.5 hours. They are cheap and generally reliable. Ask at your hotel for the current departure point in Tirana, as terminals sometimes change.

By ferry from Italy

There are ferry connections between Brindisi and Vlora, especially in summer. It's a convenient option if you're travelling with your own car from Italy. Check the timetables with the ferry operators before you travel.

By car

The highway from Tirana via Durrës and Fier is good and fast. If you are coming from the south (Saranda, Himara), the road over the Llogara Pass is slower but one of the most scenic drives in the country. Allow extra time for the curves.

• From the city centre and Lungomare it's a short taxi ride.
• Arrive 15 to 20 minutes early in high season.
• If you're coming by car, allow time to find parking near the port.
